THE CONCEPT

The gallery's intent for this catalog was to create a journey across 4 different geographical areas: East and South Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, and Oceania. Each region would have its own color, or a graphic way to signal that journey in time and space. The historical objects featured by the gallery had to live next to European 1980's design furniture from the Remix Gallery, so the catalog had to find ways to incorporate both aesthetics harmoniously.

To avoid being too literal with this brief and bring a more graphic take to the publication, I chose to use an abstract circle to evoke the journey of the sun--pale and rising on the right side of the page at first, setting in the darkness of the catalog's crease at the end.
